3D Printed Houses & Communities

Wanted to share this information about 3D Printed Houses posted by Sharon recently on the Affordable Cohousing group.

Do you suppose this might soon become a way to build an affordable dark-sky community?

3D Printed Houses

I’m doing more research on 3D printed houses and amazed by the promise they bring for all construction but particularly for low-cost housing. Particularly cohousing. I’ve asked some industry leaders questions about the machinery and upfront costs - like transporting the machinery. I just finished a blog post on it.

https://affordablecohousing.com/3d-printed-houses/

The house I featured there is one by a world-renowned architect so it is a intimidating design but there are some more “average” designs here:

https://all3dp.com/2/3d-printed-house-cost/

The machinery is expensive to buy and transport but the materials are not and a house can be built in a day. In one case 10 were built in one day. This is a youtube video of the “first 3D printed house for sale commercially.” This one is 1900 SF at $300,000 completed and obviously including land. On Long Island NY that is incredibly inexpensive. Built in a few days. 3 workers and 48 hours of printing time.

A community in rural Mexico for people living on less than $3 a day:

Please take a look at these websites and let me know if there is any such project in your area.

YES! There are a bunch of new cool sustainable building methods coming up. There's even some funding recently for IIRC drones "building" adobe style houses.

Dave,
No, probably not any time soon.
The walls are the least expensive part of a "conventional" house.

That depends where. In a lot of the rest of the world, masonry is used predominantly for construction
